Understanding Backorders

Updated June 26, 20264 minutes

Learn what happens when a product becomes unavailable after ordering and how Calas handles backorders, partial shipments, and held orders.

Most orders are processed as quickly as possible, but inventory can change quickly during peak riding season or when supplier stock is limited.

If a product becomes unavailable after an order is placed, Calas Performance will contact you to review the available options.

What this guide covers

This guide explains how backorders work, what options may be available, and what to consider when deciding whether to hold an order or accept a partial shipment.

Why backorders happen

Backorders may happen when:

  • Inventory changes before an order is processed
  • A supplier runs out of stock
  • A manufacturer changes production timing
  • A product has limited availability
  • Multiple customers order the same part at the same time

Calas works to keep product availability accurate, but occasional inventory discrepancies can happen.

Option 1: Hold the order until complete

If one or more items are unavailable, you may choose to hold the order until all products are ready.

This option is best when you prefer to receive everything together in one shipment.

Holding the order may delay delivery, but it can simplify receiving, installation planning, and package tracking.

Option 2: Ship available items first

You may also choose to have available products shipped immediately while backordered items ship separately once they are available.

This option is helpful when you need in-stock parts right away and are comfortable receiving multiple shipments.

Depending on supplier timing, this may result in separate tracking numbers and separate delivery dates.

How Calas communicates availability issues

If there is an issue with your order, a member of the Calas team may contact you by phone or email.

Reasons for contact may include:

  • Inventory discrepancy
  • Supplier delay
  • Payment verification concern
  • Product availability issue
  • Shipping question

Builder Tip

If you are ordering parts for a scheduled install, race weekend, or service appointment, contact Calas before ordering to confirm availability. Timing matters when the build is already on the calendar.

Quick checklist

If an item is backordered:

  • Decide whether you want one complete shipment
  • Decide whether partial shipment makes sense
  • Confirm your contact information is accurate
  • Watch for email or phone updates from Calas
  • Ask about timing if the part is needed urgently
